Why Bhakti Yoga?

"Bhakti" derives from the Sanskrit word "bhaj" which means to serve, worship or adore and "yoga" means union, or path.  Bhakti yoga is a spiritual practice of love and devotion that includes cultivating a relationship with the divine and all living beings around us.  It involves practices aimed at finding a deeper connection to and love for the divine such as yoga, mantra/prayer, service to community and meditation. Bhakti Yoga is a heart-centered approach to spirituality, serving one's personal transformation and a deeper understanding of the self.

Krishna serves as a reminder of divine qualities that individuals can cultivate in their own lives, such as love, purity, wisdom, and compassion. Krishna's childhood stories, such as stealing butter and playing pranks, reflect love and carefree compassion, teaching us to approach life with love and joy. Krishna's playful interactions with all beings in nature, all animals, and humans show us that we are all connected and can live in harmony. Baby Krishna is purity, innocence, and divine playfulness - reminding us of the eternal and pure state of the soul.
